Quick Trick to Link Facebook Business Page from Your Profile

For the past couple of days, I would have been pulling out my hair (if I had any) as I was trying to figure out how to link to my Facebook Business Page from my actual Facebook Profile.

There are tons of ways to link to your Facebook Business Page from a blog, website or any other location on the web, but I was having a heck of a time simply finding a way to link from my actual Facebook Profile.

A big thanks to Wordpress master Kim Woodbridge for writing theinitial post on this subject and to her anonymous commenter 'Noah' who finished itoff with the last couple of steps that I'd like to include here. Let's begin.

1. Install Custom Box Application

2. Choose an image or text you would like displayed in the 'Custom Profile Box'

As you can see, I chose my brand magnet. You can simply add text or insert an image of your choosing. However, in order for you to insert an image, it first needs to be uploaded to the internet. *See discussion in comments section below for details*

3. Click 'Update Custom Profile Box' when finished.

4. By default, 'the Custom Profile Box' will be moved into your 'Boxes' tab. The 'Boxes' tab is next to your wall, info, and photos tab which you can see while you are looking at your profile.

5. After you find the 'Custom Profile Box' in your 'Boxes' tab, click on the grayish/blue pencil in the upper right corner of your 'Custom Profile Box' and click 'Move to Wall'

That's it! Please become a fan of PullnotPush on Facebook. I'll be sharing some great content for folks who enjoy interacting on Facebook and I've just launched it!

Leave a comment and let us know if the 'Custom Box' worked for you or if you have other ideas to improve the functionality of Facebook Pages.

Thanks Dan! I just bookmarked this article on my "Technical Marketing Reading" folder.
Good stuff!
Have fun at the Hubspot party tomorrow, I wish I could be there too. Oh well, at least I got my Inbound Marketing book yesterday.

Thanks, Dan. I hoping not just to come to Boston/Cambridge, but to actually MOVE back there. Princeton is nice, but Cambridge is king!!

I will play with the tool a little, see if I can figure out how to use it. Will let you know!

Hi Itai,
Better yet, you could bookmark it in Delicious so you can share it with others as well. ;)
Let me know how it works out and we'll get you up here one of these days so we can finally meet face to face.

Way ahead of you, Dan :-) Already Digg it, Delicious it, and soon to Tweet it and Facebook it. Content is king, and yours just won the crown :-)

Thanks for the mention. "Noah" was right - so many people can't find the box after they create it and moving it the wall is the necessary last step.

Okay, I must be stupid or blind, because It does not show up in my boxes tab. So I either didn't do it right or I have a voodoo on my facebook profile.

Hi Kim,
See if this works:
1) Click on 'Applications' (bottom left of screen)
2) Click 'Edit Settings' on Custom Profile Box
3) Under Profile tab (the profile tab within the box) make sure you click 'added'

Not sure if #4 is relevant but if the above configurations don't work, follow #4 and see if it makes a difference.

4) Check the 'Additional Permissions' tab and check that it has permission to 'Publish Recent Activity.'

Check back and let us know.

Okay, another dumb question...When I go to edit my box... How did you get your logo in there? There is not a place to upload photos. Did you use html to do it?

I'm having the same issue as Kim. Does it take a while for it to resolve so it shows up in my boxes? Not seeing anything yet.

I went back in and did this: 3) Under Profile tab (the profile tab within the box) make sure you click 'added'... but I'm not seeing anywhere to click "added." That could be my problem!

I also did this: 4) Check the 'Additional Permissions' tab and check that it has permission to 'Publish Recent Activity.'

Any suggestions?

Hi Kim and Laura,
I've now updated the article, thanks. Please follow the steps as outlined below and hopefully this will work for you:

1)Image needs to be uploaded to a host for it to work. Try using Flickr to store your image.

2)You may need to crop the photo to make it fit into the custom box window (it worked for me using dimensions of 125x150).
If you don't know how to do this, click on 'Share This' (while you're in Flickr and looking at your image) in the upper right hand corner and you will be taken to 'Picnik' (Flickr's image editor).

3)Edit image

4)When finished editing, click 'Grab the HTML' and copy the code.

5)Go back to your 'Custom Profile Box' in Facebook

6)Click 'Source' (located just to the right of the binoculars)

7)Now paste the code you just copied from Flickr

8)Save

9)Your image should now show up in the 'Custom Profile Box'

Good luck and please check back and let us know if it works. Thanks!

Finally got it to work. Uploading the image wasn't the problem (I just uploaded the image directly from my Facebook Business page). It was finding that darned "add" button that drove me nuts. I must have looked at that thing 10 times before I finally spotted the tiny little "add" button.

Okay, I got it to work like you said, BUT... I don't want it to link to my flicker where I pulled the image, I want it to link to my Business Facebook Page. Did I miss something?

Kim K - I don't want to steal Dan's thunder because he helped me a lot with this (thanks, Dan!). But you don't have to upload your image to Flickr IF the image you want to link to is already on your Facebook page (such as your company logo or profile picture).

I just went to my Facebook page, right clicked on the logo and selected "Copy image location."

I created my own tutorial about how to do this on my blog today:
http://tinyurl.com/yfrpo7l

You then need to create a hyperlink within the image to make it link to your Facebook page.

Hope this helps!

Okay, the drama is over. Dan, I followed Laura's example to a tee with the HUGE exception of I was using Safari... Does not work with Safari.. Make a NOTE: This only works with Firefox and I am assuming IE. I am all set. Thanks to you and Laura...Yeah!

I have no use for thunder. ;)

Yep, you can grab the image as long as it is hosted somewhere online. If the image you want is on your Facebook Page, grab it and go. Super easy just like Laura says.

I gave the Flickr example for those who may not have a website, or if they wanted use an image different than what's on their Facebook Page.
