Do 'Rappin' Marketers Have Pull Marketing Credibility?
Posted by dan ronken
This post is a light hearted transition from my personal videos into the realm of creative business marketing videos. We all know of the cute and silly cat videos on youtube or the 'over the top' narcissistic guy who thinks there might be an audience for his misguided (to put it gently) creation.
But what about the idea of businesses creating amateur videos to build up their presence on the web? Is this a wise move or a major brand risk? Take this short fun video created by HubSpot with their 're-interpretation' of old school rapper Sir-Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back" reworked into "Baby Got Leads."
Well, it appears that they may be onto something as video marketing is one of the best internet marketing strategies for small businesses.
Mark Robertson of ReelSEO advises us to, "Remember to choose content that is remarkable and incites an emotional connection with the viewer." He proceeds to mention the importance of getting your video 'found' on the internet by utilizing all available platforms.
So what are the most important features of a viral video? I'd say authenticity, high value, originality, and some type of shock value.
Do these 'rappin' marketers have profeissional credibility? I can't vouch for their 'street cred,' but the 'stickiness' of this video speaks volumes as it's been viewed over 14,000 times in the last couple of days. And better yet, it will continue to grow without the traditional obligatory royalty payments either. Think about it.
Did they get down (pun intended) to business? Do you think it's lame? Friggin hilarious? Unprofessional? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment. Thanks!
